Maya is a girl who's life takes a destructive path after losing her beloved grandfather. For protection she is sent to a small island in Chile, her grandmother's native country, where she writes in her notebook about life currently around her and the events that has led her to her far away "prison." Even though the entries bounce back and forth from present to past, the story is easy to follow, and the journey to peace is truly inspiring.
